Chapter 34:
The Count's Castle (16)
*
No. 3 and No. 8 didn't dare to disobey.
Inside every player’s room, four rules were posted. They were: eat meals on time and do not be late; do not leave the room outside the designated times; do not damage your clothes; and after dinner, it was time for the talent performance.
Among them, if you violated the rules about leaving your room or damaging your clothes, you would be punished by the maids and the butler.
Likewise, if someone failed to eat on time, the maid and the butler would also punish them.
But what if the maid and the butler were all dead?
Then the entire castle would be left with only one A-rank monster: the Count.
At that point, the Count himself would personally punish the players.
No. 3 and No. 8 did not know that the Count was weakest during the daytime. They only felt that if they hid in their rooms and let those four players kill the maid and the butler, they would end up facing the wrath of an A-rank monster head-on.
The two of them couldn't defeat an A-rank monster. They had to join forces with those four players who clearly looked extremely powerful.
If they did not participate in eliminating the maid and the butler, those four players might abandon them later and let them face the Count alone as cannon fodder.
The wording on the note was clearly polite, yet No. 3 and No. 8 still sensed a threat between the lines.
In their eyes, the note plainly meant: If you don’t cooperate with us, we’ll send you to your deaths.
Therefore, they didn't dare to refuse.
They were intimidated by the overwhelming pressure conveyed by the note.
So, at 9 a.m., the doors of Rooms No. 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10 opened simultaneously, and eleven maids flew toward the players’ doors. Standing in front of Rooms No. 3, 4, 5, 8, and 10 were the maids corresponding to each room. However, standing in front of Ding Xun’s Room No. 7 were the remaining six maids, with twelve eyes fixed tightly on Ding Xun.
Ding Xun laughed and said, “I really am your castle’s top VIP guest. Such great treatment! So many maids serving me.”
Ding Xun didn't make a move. She drew most of the maids’ attention to herself, allowing the other players to deal with one maid each.
At this moment, Mo Bai was the first to act.
The human body model she had brought back from the storage room was still placed in her room. Mo Bai casually picked up a model leg and extended it out of the door. Maid Irene No. 4 opened her mouth and bit it off.
As the maid bent down to bite through the model, Mo Bai looked toward the opposite door and said, “Did you see it clearly?”
Across from Room No. 4 was Room No. 3. Although a maid was also blocking that doorway, the maid's tall and thin body was too narrow to cover the entire doorway. This allowed No. 3 to clearly see Mo Bai’s movements.
“I saw it clearly,” No. 3 nodded.
The same thing happened between Rooms No. 7 and No. 8, which faced each other. Gu Tiandong threw out a pillow, letting No. 8 clearly see the maid’s actions.
After finishing this demonstration, Ding Xun shouted loudly, “Maids, pay attention. I’m going to make a move!”
Because Ding Xun had previously killed a maid and drawn their hatred and vigilance, her shout attracted the attention of all the maids, including those standing in front of the other players’ doors.
Taking advantage of this moment, everyone threw objects out of their rooms.
Some threw pillows, some threw parts of the human body model, and some threw chairs. Ye Pingjun didn’t bother with that. He directly swung out the Thunderclap Whip. The maid outside his door bit down on the whip, and the moment her teeth touched it, a streak of silver lightning flashed. The maid was instantly electrocuted into a charred corpse.
Gu Tiandong fired a shot at the maid’s temple, but the maid’s skin was elastic. The bullet failed to fully penetrate and was actually blocked by her highly resilient skin.
But Gu Tiandong had anticipated this, so he didn’t stop. Using the handgun’s auto-aim function, he continued targeting the maid’s temple and fired three shots in rapid succession. Using the combined force of the three bullets, he forcibly pushed them into the maid’s brain.
A maid could block one shot, but not three.
After finishing this, Gu Tiandong took advantage of the moment when no maid was blocking his doorway and threw the gun out of the room, tossing it directly into the middle of the corridor.
No. 3 and No. 8 were also combat-type players. No. 3 possessed a B-rank offensive item called “Storm of Pear Blossom Needles,” which could be used three times. No. 8’s innate ability was called “Hard Bones,” allowing him to pull out his own bones and use them as weapons.
No. 3 easily eliminated his maid using his item, while No. 8 directly extended his arm outward. When the maid opened her bloody mouth to bite his arm, the bones in his forearm rose up like steel blades, piercing through the maid’s upper jaw and into her brain, killing her in a single strike.
Only Mo Bai did not attack. She had no offensive cards left and was merely a pitiful Beginner-3 player, completely unable to fight a B-rank monster.
The others were all Beginner–9 players who had added attribute points eight times and possessed plenty of points to buy items. Entirely different from Mo Bai.
Even without Mo Bai taking action, the group eliminated four maids in an instant.
The maids were stunned.
To keep an eye on the players, four of the six maids in front of Ding Xun’s door immediately split off and rushed to the other players’ doors to fill the gaps.
At the same time, the butler rushed over at a speed even faster than the maids.
He shouted loudly, “Riot! This is a riot by the guests. In this situation, we can no longer treat them politely. We must—”
Before he could finish speaking, three gunshots rang out—bang, bang, bang. Three shots hit the butler squarely in the back, piercing straight through his heart.
There were no players in the corridor, and no one touched the gun.
“How… how is this possible?” The butler stared at the gun with eyes wide open as he collapsed.
He had the speed to dodge bullets, hands capable of slicing through the air, excellent dynamic vision, and defense stronger than that of ordinary people. How could he be killed by a handgun?
No one was controlling the gun, so who did this?
Inside Room No. 7, Gu Tiandong slightly moved his fingers. Five invisible thin threads were wrapped around his hand.
The C-rank item Manipulation Thread was part of the peculiar hobby of Count Leon that the butler and maids didn't even know about. It was obtained from No. 1 and No. 2, and these threads were only good for controlling small toys.
A gun just happened to qualify as a small toy.
That morning, while walking from their rooms to the dining hall, Mo Bai heard Ye Pingjun complaining that after expending so much effort to kill No. 2, a B-rank monster, he only obtained a C-rank item, which was a terrible deal.
The moment Mo Bai heard the effect of the Manipulation Thread, she immediately thought of Gu Tiandong’s gun.
A gun held in the hand made people wary, but a gun lying on the ground was easily overlooked.
A gun that could auto-aim, and paired with wires that could remotely manipulate small objects, it was a perfect match.
Thus, the two Manipulation Thread cards held by Ye Pingjun and Ding Xun were both given to Gu Tiandong, and the task of assassinating the butler was entrusted to him.
After the butler died, the maid outside Gu Tiandong’s door wanted to destroy the gun. But Ding Xun shouted loudly again, “There are only two trash maids left in front of my door. I can kill both of you with a single move.”
A gigantic sword as tall as a person appeared in Ding Xun’s hands. This was the sword that had once severed Irene No. 7’s head in a single strike. Ding Xun’s weapon, the B-rank item “Mountain-Splitting Sword,” could be repeatedly used like Gu Tiandong’s gun.
This sword had no special abilities. Just like its name, it possessed the hardness to split mountains and shatter stone. Even A-rank monsters would find it difficult to destroy.
This time, Ding Xun was not bluffing. She swung the greatsword and charged at the two maids.
The two maids desperately tried to dodge, but the greatsword’s attack range was too wide, and their bodies were too tall and long. No matter how flexible they were, they were still struck by the blade.
Ding Xun’s Super Intuition ability also allowed her to precisely detect the direction of the maids’ evasive movements. Fighting two all by herself posed no difficulty. Like slicing melons and chopping vegetables, she eliminated both maids.
At the same time, No. 3, No. 8, and Ye Pingjun struck again. Familiar with the process now, they swiftly eliminated the maids in front of their doors.
In less than five minutes, only the replacement maid in front of Gu Tiandong’s door and the gap-toothed maid in front of Mo Bai remained.
Nine maids had died in an instant. The remaining two were like flickering candles in the wind as they trembled uncontrollably.
The four players with no maids blocking their doors stepped out of their rooms.
No. 3 and No. 8 had already eliminated four maids together. Mo Bai had assigned them five in total, leaving one remaining. They asked, “Which one should we deal with?”
Ding Xun pointed at the maid in front of Gu Tiandong’s door. “You take that one.”
No. 3 and No. 8 joined forces and eliminated the terrified maid in front of Gu Tiandong’s door.
Now, only Irone No. 4, the gap-toothed maid outside Mo Bai’s room, remained.
Mo Bai propped her chin on her hand and looked at the gap-toothed maid. “Look how kind I’ve been to you. Even though I knew you secretly put thumbtacks under my bedsheets, I still didn’t hurt you.”
“That’s because you said you needed to keep one maid alive to lead the way and restrict the Count. Irene No. 4 has already lost two teeth thanks to you before, making her the easiest to control. That’s why you spared her,” Ye Pingjun walked over and exposed Mo Bai’s lie.
“Let me show some truth, goodness, and beauty,” Mo Bai complained.
The scene was extremely bizarre.
Mo Bai sat inside the room. The gap-toothed maid blocked her doorway. Behind the maid stood five other players in a neat line. A dignified B-rank monster now looked pitiful and helpless.
Ding Xun looked at No. 3 and No. 8 and asked, “Which one of you has a binding-type item?”
No. 8 respectfully offered a card with both hands. “B-rank card "Birdcage." It’s the only B-rank item I have. It can imprison monsters below B-rank for one day, as long as the monster is injured. Even a small scratch counts.”
The gap-toothed maid was already injured. After obtaining the right to use the card from No. 8, Ding Xun materialized the card into an item, pressed one hand against the maid, and locked her into the Birdcage.
The Birdcage could shrink the imprisoned monster, turning the gap-toothed maid into the size of a magpie, which was quite light to carry.
At this point, all eleven maids and the butler had been dealt with.
No. 3 and No. 8 were filled with admiration.
Every player present had the ability to deal with B-rank monsters, but eliminating so many B-rank monsters so smoothly relied entirely on flawless strategy.
To figure out the abilities and weaknesses of every B-rank monster within just one day of entering the instance, and to devise a battle plan that felt like using a walkthrough. The leader of this four-person team was truly a top-tier strategist.
After the battle, everyone began cleaning up the battlefield.
Two types of B-rank items could drop from maids. One was “Steel Teeth,” the maids’ teeth, which could be repeatedly used but had to be equipped in the mouth.
The other was “Elastic Skin,” which could be equipped on the body, granting the same flexibility as the maids. It could only be used once, but its duration lasted three days.
Each maid dropped only one item, either Steel Teeth or Elastic Skin. In total, ten B-rank item cards dropped.
No. 3 and No. 8 had dealt with five maids. The four-person team didn’t take their loot and gave those five cards to them.
However, the two felt that they had only contributed a little and insisted on giving the cards to the person they believed to be the leader, Ding Xun. With no choice, Ding Xun accepted a Steel Teeth card, feeling as if she were collecting protection money.
The butler dropped a pair of white gloves, which was an extremely valuable A-rank card. Although they were gloves, the item was called “Spatial Blade.”
Gu Tiandong, who had killed the butler, picked up the card and placed it into Mo Bai’s hand. “This card belongs to you.”
No. 3 and No. 8 were stunned.
This observation-type player had been sitting in a wheelchair the entire time and hadn’t lifted a finger. Why should the most valuable card go to her?
Mo Bai, however, accepted the Spatial Blade without hesitation.
[
Name:Spatial Blade
Type: Item Card
Rank:A
Effect: It does not cut objects, but the space the objects occupy. It is unaffected by hardness and can sever all space within 30 centimeters around the glove.
Usage: Wear it like a glove and chop downward with your hand like a blade.
Uses:Unlimited until destroyed; can be repeatedly transformed into a card.
Details: A weapon passed down through generations of the Count’s family, awarded to the most outstanding butler. Every servant regards obtaining this pair of gloves as a lifelong goal. The true source of power is not the butler, but the Count’s lineage.

“For a B-rank monster to drop an A-rank item, we’re really lucky,” Ding Xun said.
Ye Pingjun chuckled twice but said nothing.
Seeing his expression, Mo Bai asked, “Your luck value dropped again?”
Ye Pingjun replied, “Down by 30. I suspect the Count is about to lose his mind.”
Their actions had been seen by the Count, and hatred had taken root in his heart.
If it weren’t daytime, and if the gap-toothed maid in Ding Xun’s hands were already dead, the Count would probably have personally come to slaughter all these players.
“What do we do next?” Ding Xun asked.
“Find a lighter. Tear down all the curtains below the third floor of the castle and burn them in the first-floor hall,” Mo Bai said. “Then smash the castle’s windows and furniture.”
“You’re not afraid of forcing the Count to act?” Gu Tiandong asked.
“That’s exactly what I want,” Mo Bai smiled. “It’s daytime right now. The sunlight outside is perfect.”
This was the time when the Count was at his weakest. No matter what, Mo Bai had to force the Count to act during the day.
The Author has something to say:
At this moment, the Count was like this: red-eyed while biting a handkerchief in his room.
—
When the previous chapter was updated, two bugs appeared.
First, Gu Tiandong had already used up one item slot, the carrier pigeon, so the two magazines were changed to one. The magazine now contained 10 bullets.
Second, the note Mo Bai gave to No. 3 and No. 8 previously did not include the maid’s weakness. It was revised to only include a simple sentence.
There was also an earlier bug: the setting that there should be a talent performance after dinner was forgotten by the forgetful, lazy Qing.
So let me explain. The reason the talent performance was canceled was because Mo Bai had acted against No. 1 and No. 2, which made the Count so angry that he no longer needed everyone to perform.
In fact, the post-dinner talent performance was originally an activity the Count used to decide whose room he would visit that night. Since the Count had already chosen Mo Bai in advance, there was no need for a performance last night.
I’ll find a suitable place later to explain this setting properly.
Love you all. See you tomorrow at noon.
